Are you armed with a list of Seattle Suburbs and you can’t figure out which one might be the best fit for you? Hopefully, Mukilteo is on the list and here we will go over why Mukilteo, Washington is a good place to live.

Moving to a new town is a big decision in itself let alone moving to a brand new state you are unfamiliar with.

Regardless if you are a Washingtonian looking for a new town to call home or someone who will be a new resident of Washington, welcome! This blog will explore different Seattle Suburbs to help you make the right decision for your next move!

If you haven’t explored Mukilteo, Washington (pronounced MUK-EL-TEE-OH), you will definitely want to have this on your list of possibilities.

Where Exactly Is Mukilteo, Washington?

The beautiful city of Mukilteo, Washington, is located in Snohomish County just south of Everett and 25 miles north of Seattle. With decent commuting times to Seattle and Bellevue (anywhere from 40-60+ minutes depending on conditions), Mukilteo is a perfect city to call home, but most importantly, a very short commute to one of the larger employers in our area, Boeing!

Mukilteo is a smaller city in Snohomish County with approximately 21,246 residents who call home. Even on the smaller side, you won’t be in search for endless things to do in and around Mukilteo!

Nestled along the Puget Sound, a quick trip to the beach on a sunny day will make you fall in love with this beautiful community. With the Washington State Ferry Terminal right in downtown Mukilteo, you can make a quick escape to Whidbey Island on a 15-20 minute ferry ride.

School District

Mukilteo is in the Mukilteo School District with top rated schools, according to niche.com, and situated right in the community, residents love to hear wafts of music from Kamiak High School’s band when they practice, cheering crowds from supporting the athletics at the various schools and the local public library right in the heart of Mukilteo really makes this a tight-knit feel community.

The two high schools which most students attend are Kamiak High and Mariner High. Kamiak is more centrally located in Mukilteo and if you have a preference on which school your children attend, make sure you research the school boundary lines.

Also, one thing to consider is with the need for more homes in the Greater Seattle Area, school districts do tend to rezone so keep that in mind if you are close on the border between two schools!

Amenities

You might be wondering if living in a smaller sized town might be the right fit for you or if you will be close to everything you might need.

Shopping – With quaint shops and great eateries throughout Mukilteo, you also are very close to the convenience of a larger city, Everett, that has everything you could possibly need. Grocery stores are within minutes of downtown Mukilteo and surrounding cities are very easy to travel to for things that might be missing.

Healthcare – You will be close to Everett Providence Regional Medical Center or even Swedish Edmonds Campus for any health concerns and, of course, an abundance of walk-in clinics, dental care and just about everything in between you could need health wise within no more than a 15 minute drive.

There’s a nice feeling of escape when you are in Mukilteo with the added convenience of not being too far away from anything you could need!

Cost of Living

If you have done a quick search on any platform, you have most likely discovered that Washington State is higher than the national average for overall cost of living – about 20 to 22% higher than the national average. With that, it goes even higher when you concentrate into more specific cities, such as a city that is right up against the Puget Sound such as Mukilteo.

The cost of living in Mukilteo, just like most suburbs of the greater Seattle area , is significantly higher than the national average. When you focus in on cost of living in Mukilteo, you will find that it is approximately 48% higher for the cost of living, with the bulk of that being in housing costs.

On a side note, cost of living in Eastern Washington versus Western Washington is much more affordable, but on a state level, Washington is behind in housing demands and has been for quite some time. It is hard playing catch-up and with housing demand just as high as ever, it definitely plays a factor in keeping our housing costs on the more expensive side.
